Defensible Space
The term defensible space refers to the area around a structure where the vegetation has been managed, which allows firefighters to safely work to reduce the impacts from wildfire. Protecting a home from wildfire requires continual defensible space actions in three zones around the property.
The Ember-Resistant Zone
0–5 feet
ZONE 1
The Lean, Clean and Green Zone
5–30 feet
ZONE 3
The Reduced Fuel Zone
30–100 feet +
