Cougar Creek Fire and Navaree Fire

ENTIAT (August 3, 2018: 8:00 am)

Cougar Creek Fire •Acres: 3614 •Containment: 0% •Location: 20 miles northwest of Entiat •Start Date: July 28, 2018 at 7:21 pm •Cause: Lightening

Current Activity: The Cougar Creek Fire spotted past a trigger point and activated a Level 3 evacuation for those on Entiat River Road from Potato Creek (~Mile Post 14) to the end as of 5:00 pm yesterday. Air attack has dropped over 43,000 gallons of retardant yesterday. Northwest Interagency Incident Management Team 11 (NWT11), Chelan County Fire Districts and mutual aid departments, and the Chelan County Sheriff's Office are working together to provide structure protection. Structure protection groups are in place along the Entiat River Road within the Level 3 evacuation zone.

Today begins the transition from NWT11 to a Type 1 Team. California Interagency Incident Management Team 5 will assume command beginning tomorrow at 6:00 am.

Evacuations: Chelan County Emergency Management raised the evacuation level to 3 for those on the Entiat River Road from Potato Creek (~Mile Post 14) to the end as of 5:00 pm yesterday. A level 3 evacuation means "Leave Now." From Mad River Road to Potato Creek remains at a Level 2 for now. Level 2 means to "Get Set"; be packed and prepared to evacuate in case a higher level of evacuation is issued. Ardenvoir currently does not have any evacuation notices.

Smoke: The Cougar Creek fire has a large visible smoke column that can be seen for miles. Smoke is filtering into surrounding communities, particularly Chelan. Navarre Fire

•Acres: 151 •Containment: 85% •Location: Navarre Coulee Road between US 97 and County Road 2 (WA 971) •Start Date: July 31, 2018 at 8:45pm •Cause: Under Investigation

Current Activity: Navarre is minimally active. Winds will be erratic in the area however, personnel are conducting mop-up activities.

The fire grew to over 3600 acres yesterday with new level 3 evacuation notices in the Entiat Valley. Over 43,800 gallons of fire retardant were dropped on the fire yesterday by a “VLAT” or Very Large Air Tanker.
