2018 Leavenworth Firefighter Challenge

The 2018 Leavenworth Fire Fighter 10K challenge was held April 28th. This was a very challenging 10K loop route on trails starting and returning to Ski Hill. Finish line was at the top of a 100 yard uphill run to ring the fire bell. The contestants were separated into three divisions;  Elite, Probie and Trail Runners (open for the public). Over 100 people total competed, 62 of those in the Elite division.  firefighters from Gig Harbor, Grant County, Benton County, Chelan County Fire Districts 3,6 and 7, USFS, DNR, Woodenville, US Navy-Whidbey and Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue.  CCFD 1, led by Chief Mike Burnett, won the team competition. The number of competitors tripled the number of participants last year.

LWFR had 2 fire fighters Josiah Norby and Tom Snook, compete in the Elite division; the 62 competitors in this division were all Red-Carded fire fighters in full wildland gear with a 25lb pack, wildland boots, helmet and nomax shirt and pants. Josiah Norby finished 16th in this category.

This was a great, well organized event and Fire District 3 in Leavenworth deserves much credit. See http://lwffc.org for photos and details.
